The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced the appointment of Isidore Sobkowski as special consultant on technology and interim Director of the National Office of Wagering Security.
Sobkowski has been the Chief Technology Officer of Stamford, CT-based Self Service Technologies since 2000 where he oversaw technology, software and cyber-security strategies and processes for banking, service and gaming clients. Prior to that he was founder and CEO of Professional Help Desk, an-award winning technology firm that he sold to Computer Associates. In his career, Sobkowski has advised such clients as the New York Stock Exchange and New York OTB.
"Izzy Sobkowski brings a wealth of experience in cyber security and in-depth knowledge in leading edge technology to the National Office of Wagering Security," said NTRA Deputy Commissioner Greg Avioli. "His work on the development and implementation of the StockWatch systems that monitor the trading on the NYSE is particularly relevant to our industry."
"I look forward to working with the tracks and their technology partners to ensure a secure environment for electronic wagering," said Sobkowski. "The challenges of the racing industry, especially with a majority of the wagering happening off-site, are similar to on-line gaming and financial services. The integrity of data and data flow need to be beyond reproach in order for customers to participate with full confidence."
Sobkowski will begin effective May 1 and will be based at the NTRA's New York office. Among his initial duties will be to assess the industry's current security systems and recommending cost efficient methods for improvement.
The National Office of Wagering Security was created at the recommendation of the NTRA Wagering Technology Working Group and its security consultants, Giuliani Partners, to coordinate security for electronic wagering for NTRA tracks and their technology providers.
